If you want a .com, .net, or .org website, Godaddy.com has free hosting available once you buy a domain. You will have an ad-bar at the top of the page though. Paid hosing starts at $4/month though. It's not very expensive.
You could go to byethost.com. You still have to pay for any domains, but you have free hosting (with no ad bars). I'm currently looking at upgrading my hosting to a providor that will give me 5 tetrabytes of bandwidth as well as 510GB of web space and 1000 MySQL databases. It's only $6.45/month.
